Odisha: In-laws accused of spying in bedroom over dowry instance

Less than three weeks after her marriage, the complainant Neerja Nalini had left her in-laws' place.

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha Police has served notices to the in-laws, including the husband, of a woman following her complaint alleging the former of threatening to upload intimate moments of the couple on social media platforms.

Neerja Nalini Mohanty, the daughter-in-law of a city-based doctor couple on Saturday evening filed a complaint in Khurda police station, nearly 30 km from here alleging that she was subjected to physical and mental torture for dowry demands of Rs 35 lakh.

Less than three weeks after her marriage, the complainant Neerja Nalini had left her in-laws’ place for her parent’s house fearing for her life. She said CCTV camera was installed in her bedroom.

“Do affluent people install CCTV cameras in their daughter-in-laws’ bedroom? They had threatened to eliminate me and upload the footage to social media if I spoked about it to anyone,” she said.
