Kondai and Maliala villages are surrounded with flood waters in Mulugu

WARANGAL: With water overflowing Jamppanna vagu following heavy rains, two villages — Kondai and Maliala — of Eturnagaram mandal in Mulugu district were completely inundated with flood water.

As soon as people noticed heavy inflow of flood water into the villages, many of them saved their lives going on to the top of their houses. But around 20 members of the two villages are said to be washed away in the flood water.

The rescue teams, which included NDRF and police personnel, started rescue operations with water boats while the officials of the Indian Air Force (IAF) pressed into service two helicopters to bring the people of two villages stranded in the flood water to safe zones.

Since the flood water was flowing at danger levels and it was raining heavily, the rescue teams were facing a lot of problems for carrying out search operations and reaching the two villages Kodai and Maliala.

The officials arranged food and water packets to the villagers through helicopters.

It is learnt from the police officials that around 20 members of the two villages were washed away in the flood water. While five bodies were recovered, search is on to find others.

Locals, who noticed an unidentified dead body of a person hanging to the electricity wires surfaced after decreasing the flood water levels in Tadvai mandal, informed the police officials.
