Two women die in car crash in Kanchi
CHENNAI: Two women died and two men suffered injuries when the car in which they were travelling was hit by an unidentified lorry in the wee hours of Saturday.
The injured were shifted to the private hospital in Padappai. The accident took place near Padappai on Vandalur-Wallajahbad Highway.
The deceased were identified as M.Raghavi( 23) of Pillaiyarkovil Street in Madurai and her friend M.Dhivya Dharshini(27) of Chidambaram Chettiyar Colony in Erode. The injured, B.Dhamodharan (25) of Lourdhu Nagar in Madurai and S.Vignesh(24) of Thangam Nagar in Pallikaranai were out danger and undergoing treatment.
According to the police, the accident happened at around 3 am on Saturday Morning, when the friend's gang was returning to Madurai after having Dharshan at the Athivarathar Temple festival in Kancheepuram. They were travelling in Dhamodharan's Hyundai I 20 car.
Eyewitnesses told when the car was moving near Padaippai in Kancheepuram district on the Vandalur- Wallajahbad highroad, an unidentified speeding lorry hit the car from behind. In the impact, the back portion of the car which was driven by Dhamodharan was completely damaged and the two women who were seated on the back seat were crushed to death. The lorry fled the spot after causing the accident.
On being informed, The Manimangalam police rushed to the spot and rescued the people from the mangled car. The bodies of Dhivya and Raghavi were shifted to the Sri Perumbudur government hospital for post-mortem. The injured were sent to a private hospital. The Manimangalam police registered a case and launched a search for the lorry driver.
