Students air views on education policy
Bengaluru: A one-day symposium to help students and teachers provide inputs to Draft National Education Policy 2019 under the theme ‘Our Future, Our Voice’ was recently held at Bal Bhavan in Cubbon Park.
The event was organised jointly by Inventure Academy, in association with Karnataka ICSE Schools Association (KISA), Associated Management of Primary & Secondary Schools in Karnataka (KAMS), Management of Independent CBSE Schools Association Karnataka (MICSA) and Management Association of ICSE & ISC Schools (MAS).
The organisers conducted this symposium on the backdrop of the state government inviting feedback from 1,000 students through the ‘Our Safety Our Voice’ initiative to tackle physical security and abuse of school going children to incorporate the same in NEP 2019.
As many as 460 students, 80 teachers from over 65 schools from various Boards of Education shared their views.
The symposium came out with some recommendations including favouring common curriculum to all schools, to drop multiple board exams over four years for Grade 9 to 12 as most of the students not happy with present system.
Many students have also sought the Draft NEP 2019 to give emphasis on co-curricular activities, not to force students to learn many languages, freedom for faculty and management, to ensure quality education by recruiting teachers to vacant posts.
The organisers will soon submit the outcome of this symposium to experts involved in framing Draft NEP 2019. Nearly65 schools from various boards of education shared their views at the event.
