Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based businessman Sana Satish Babu was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on Friday night in Delhi in connection with a money laundering case of meat exporter Moin Qureshi.
Satish Babu was being investigated by a special investigation team (SIT) of the CBI, headed by Asthana, when he had accused him for accepting bribes.
According to sources, on Friday night Satish Babu was confronted with documents which showed that he gave Rs 50 lakh to purchase shares in a company reportedly owned by Moin Qureshi. However, the company was a shell company.
Before the CBI vs CBI war broke, the ED was treating him as a witness in the same case where Qureshi was a witness.
In 2017, before the CBI SIT then headed by Asthana, Satish Babu had claimed that a Rajya Sabha member had spoken to the then CBI director and that the case against him would be “fixed”.
This led to Mr Verma to file an FIR against Mr Asthana and others. Satish Babu had claimed that Asthana had demanded a bribe of Rs 5 crore. Mr Asthana had always maintained that Satish Babu was part of the Qureshi net.
Satish Babu was named in the Enforce-ment Directorate case in 2015 against Qureshi case and in 2017 where he tried to mediate on behalf of the accused.
He was associated with companies then owned by Nimmagadda Prasad of Vanpic group.
In the chargesheet filed by the ED in October 2017, Satish Babu stated that he went to Delhi to secure bail for Sukesh Gupta of MBS Jewellers of Hyderabad in another CBI case and then Congress leader and now YSR Congress leader Bosa Satyanarayana ahd accompanied him.
The ED also alleged Koneru Pradeep, son of Koneru Prasad, accused in the Emaar scam, had allegedly paid money to Qureshi.
The BBM (Blackberry messages)P between the then CBI director A.P. Singh and Qureshi mentioned Koneru Pradeep and Satish Babu extensively....
