Mysuru: Even as  former Ballari MP B. Sriramulu  stated that he would lead the movement for a separate state of North Karnataka and later retracted his statement, BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje said that it was not a right demand.  Ms Karandlaje, like every year, climbed the 1,000 steps of Chamundi Hills and had the darshan of Goddess Chamundeswari on the auspicious occasion of the second Aashada Friday and later spoke to mediapersons.

Responding to a question on the August 2 bandh for a separate state of North Karnataka, she said, “All the problems will not be resolved if North Karnataka becomes a separate state. If we have to get justice on issues like sharing of  Mahadayi, Krishna and Cauvery river water, people of the state need to stay united. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have become weak after they became separate states. The same situation must not happen here though the BJP is always with people of North Karnataka,” she said.

“In a democratic system, the CM should not restrict himself to just three or four districts. He has to respond to problems of people from all parts of the state. It is for this reason that voices for a separate State for North Karnataka have emerged,” she added.  On the functioning of the coalition government she said, “The confusion on waiving off farm loans continues. As a result, 20 to 30 farmers have already ended their lives after the new coalition government came to power,” she said.
