Most teachers working in urban areas

RTE activist M.R.S.K. Chaitanya said the imbalance was caused due to the vacancies.

Hyderabad: Most government teachers opted to work in urban areas in the recent transfer season, leaving few teachers in schools in rural and remote areas.

Mr Chava Ravi, general secretary, Telangana State United Teachers Federation, said the situation would not have risen if the government had taken up recruitments immediately.

RTE activist M.R.S.K. Chaitanya said the imbalance was caused due to the vacancies. “Teachers don’t opt for remote areas because the atmosphere in the schools is not very good. The schools have dilapidated buildings and are not child friendly.” Teachers are burdened with extra duties at such schools.

He said the government tried to make up by recruiting vidya volunteers, but they had not joined because of the low pay. Besides, many schools are poorly connected by bus. Mr Chaitanya said.
