Two fishing habours to come up in Rameswaram

Chief Minister said this initiative was part of the larger proposal to improve the livelihood opportunities of the fishermen.

Rameswaram: Work on constructing fishing harbours in Ramanathapuram district-one at Thangatchimadam near Rameswaram and the second at Mookkaiyur about 140 km up north will begin soon, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami announced on Thursday.

Speaking at a function organised to dedicate the memorial for former President Abdul Kalam here, the Chief Minister said this initiative was part of the larger proposal to improve the livelihood opportunities of the fishermen.

He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allocating about Rs 200 crore to encourage the fishermen to take up deep sea fishing.

He appealed to the Prime Minister to use his good offices with Sri Lanka and secure the early and safe release of 75 fishermen and their boats.
