Telangana police panel condemns attacks on cops at Nerella village

The villagers stopped the police from entering the village. Even the fire engine was not allowed to enter the village.

Warangal: The Telangana State Police Officers Association on Thursday condemned the attack on police personnel at Nerella village following the death of one person in a road accident.

Association state president Y. Gopi Reddy said the villagers attacked several policemen and injured them. Along with five lorries, two police vehicles were also damaged, he said.

“The villagers stopped the police from entering the village. Even the fire engine was not allowed to enter the village. Obstructing the police from carrying out its duties is against the law. In addition, several political parties have alleged that the police had arrested some youths and tortured them for four days. Why will the police want to torture the locals?” Mr Reddy said.

He said that levelling such baseless allegations against the police was shameful. “Unparliamentarily language was used against the police department that works round the clock to maintain law and order. It is a disciplined system. We will not tolerate anyone targeting the police department for their selfish reasons,” Mr Reddy said.

The association members demanded severe action against one Vemula Ashok who used derogatory words against the police department.

Meanwhile, the flow of political leaders to the village in support of the Dalits there continued on Thursday.
