No let-up in drugs probe, says Telangana minister
Hyderabad: Excise minister T. Padma Rao Goud on Thursday said the excise department’s clean-up operation against drugs would continue till Hyderabad was made a drug-free city.
He said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had given excise department the task of making Hyderabad drug-free and the department would not stop till this goal was achieved.
Speaking to mediapersons at the Secretariat, Mr Goud said 15 people had been arrested in the drugs case so far and the SIT investigation into the case was going on in a transparent manner. He condemened allegations that the state government was targetting some film personalities on the pretext of drug hauls.
“This is a serious case involving drugs. There is no need for government to target anyone. Our aim is only to check this drug menace and make Hyderabad and Telangana state a drug free city and state. The government will not spare anyone how influential they may be, if they are found to be guilty in drugs case,” Mr Goud said.
He added that notices for interrogation on drug links were served on 12 film personalities, 11 bars and pubs so far.
The minister said the inquiries revealed that students of 26 schools and 27 colleges besides employees of 25 IT companies obtained drugs from those who were arrested in drugs case.
