Hyderabad: BSNL broadband users hit by technical snag

The modems which were not having new user IDs and passwords after installations got shutdown, K. Ramachand said.

Hyderabad: Due to technical problems, about 45 per cent of broadband connections provided by the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in city is not working since Wednesday.

Officials at exchange level and field level staff thought the problem was due to a problems with the central server and improper optimisation of databases. On Thursday, however, they concluded that it was a problem with database of newly installed modems with copper lines.

Customers from key localities in West Zone like Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, SR Nagar, Rajiv Nagar, Kukatpally and Chandanagar have suffered more comparing with other zones in city.

Principal General Manger of Hyderabad Telecom District K. Ramachand told this newspaper that few modems with new technology got affected and the department identified the problem. “We provide default user IDs and passwords to customers and they should change it later. The modems which were not having new user IDs and passwords after installations got shutdown,” he said.

Another official from West Zone said, “We identified the problem on Thursday and directed field level staff to visit customers to change specifications of modems followed by changing user details. Due to protests by some unions of BSNL on Thursday, we were unable to rectify the problem 100 per cent,” he said.
