Hyderabad: City cardiologists have asked the AP government to repeal their decision of not allowing NTR Vaidyaseva patients from seeking cardiac care in Hyderabad hospitals. NTR Vaidyaseva is the AP version of Aarogyasri.
The AP government order will put heart patients at immense risk, trauma and discomfort, the doctors said.
Dr Sridhar Kasturi, president of Cardiology Society of India (Telangana), said, “People who opt for Vaidyaseva are from economically and socially backward sections. These people come to Hyderabad as the best of treatment can be provided to them here. If the Vaidyaseva services are stopped, the patient is denied his right of seeking the best possible care.”
The patients already under treatment in Hyderabad, will now be compelled to change their doctor midway due to the abrupt decision.
According to the data available with doctors, 70 per cent of NTR Vaid-yaseva patients come to Hyderabad for treatment.
Senior cardiologist Dr Sarat Chandra said, “Several patients are not aware of this decision and continue to se-ek treatment in Hyderabad. They are now being forced to pay and they are having difficulty mobilising the money. There are people domiciled in Andhra Pradesh but living in Hyderabad who are denied the right of seeking treatment in their city.”
The doctors stated that the priority of the government should be to facilitate better care, rather than restricting care.
Senior cardiologist Dr Vijay Kumar Reddy said, “The decision for now is taken only for cardiology and other specialties have not been included in the order. This is bad for cardiac patients of AP state.”
A senior doctor said, “The hospitals of Andhra Pradesh are aggressively catering to Telangana Aarogyasri patients from the districts of Khammam and Nalagonda. This is being openly done but there is no hue and cry raised by Telangana Aarogyasri, as it is considered to be in the interest of the patient.”

Ministers and MLAs are under pressure from the public of their respective districts and constituencies on the withdrawal of Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva (Aaro-gyasri) in network hospitals in Hyderabad as there is no well-advanced hospital with the latest medical technologies in AP.
According to the AP Reorganisation Act, Hyderabad is the common capital for both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for 10 years.

An MLA said the Aarogyasri services were halted in Hyderabad to support few hospitals and doctors in AP, which belongs to ruling party community. On July 13, the Andhra Pradesh state government withdrew the Aarogyasri services in network hospitals across Telangana
