Anantapur: 67 child workers, beggars rescued
ANANTAPUR: The District Child Protection Unit of Kadapa rescued 67 children, mostly labourers and beggars, during a special drive in Kadapa district headquarters on Thursday. During a joint operation by the Kadapa police, the Child Protection Unit along with the labour department and vigilance committee, conducted a special drive in all areas of Kadapa, said district child protection officer B. Shivaprasad Reddy.
Four teams rescued 67 children and 20 child labou cases were registered against shops for using child labourers. “Most of the children were engaged as labourers and some of them were turned into beggars”, the Kadapa district child protection officer said, and added that the children were produced before Children Welfare Association chairperson I. Sharada.
Kadapa DSP E.G. Ashok Kumar who initiated the drive directed child protection officials to shelter them at a juvenile home for 10 days. The teams also conducted counselling for parents for forcing children into labourers and beggars. Assistant schooling coordinator D. Sujatha Rani, Asst AMO Iliyaz Khan and police teams from one town, town and Chinachowk participated in the drive.
