Turned away by EFLU, JNU picks scholar

Jalees left for New Delhi on Wednesday to complete the admission formalities.

Hyderabad: Kerala student Jalees Kodur, who was denied a hall ticket for the Ph.D entrance test at the city-based English and Foreign Languages University due to alleged violation of law has got an admission in Ph.D (Arabic) in JNU, New Delhi. Mr Jalees left for New Delhi on Wednesday to complete the admission formalities. His case was first reported in this newspaper in May when he was not given a hall ticket for the Ph.D entrance and was denied admission into the BA (Russian) course.

He was a student of MA (Arabic) 2014-16 batch at EFLU. Mr Jalees and 25 other students ate beef on the campus to extend solidarity with OU students who had given a call for the programme on December 10, 2015. The programme was not held due to a police clampdown following court orders. After they posted pictures on social media, the EFLU administration went to the police. EFLU Proctor Prof. Prakash Kona said the decision had nothing to do with the beef incident; the university was not concerned with what happens outside. “Since the law as law was violated on the EFLU campus we reported it to the police,” he said.
