Hyderabad: Several Congress and BJP leaders were put under house arrest on Thursday to prevent them from staging protest at the secretariat against the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao laying foundation stone for the new Secretariat and Assembly buildings.

The CM laid foundation stones for the new buildings around 11 am.

While AICC secretary and former MP V. Hanumantha Rao was put under house arrest by the police, BJP MLC and Hyderabad unit president N. Ramchander Rao checked into a hotel at Habsiguda to escape the police action.

However, police arrived at the hotel and prevented him from leaving the premises.

BJP MLA Raja Singh also alleged that he was put under house arrest for opposing Chief Minister K. Chandra-sekhar Rao’s decision to construct the new Secretariat and Assembly buildings.
