Kottayam: Bishop Franco trial postponed to July 9
Kottayam: The Judicial First Class magistrate Court in Pala on Thursday posted the hearing in the nun rape case against Jalandhar Bishop Franco Mulakkal to July 9.
Though the court was set to commit the case to the principal sessions Court in Kottayam, the proceedings had to be postponed after counsel for accused sought copies of the remaining documents, if any.
The accused argued that a few documents handed over by the prosecution were not legible and also demanded the statements of the seven magistrates, who had recorded the statements of the witnesses and those who were arraigned as witnesses in the mahassar report, among others.
It further sought the investigating officer to file a detailed affidavit in case of not recording the statement the above said persons. If proved guilty, the Bishop may get a life imprisonment or a minimum imprisonment of not less than ten years.
