Traffic cops find creative way to penalise actor Jai

The police did not want to let the actor go collecting a meagre Rs 1,500 fine from him.

Chennai: Movie stars may have to think twice before violating traffic rules as the Chennai Traffic police have found a new way to penalise the popular faces.

Actor Jai who had donned easy-going protagonist roles in hit movies such as Chennai-28 franchise, Subramaniapuram and Engayum Epothum, had to show his guilty face in an awareness video on traffic violation. The police made the video after they caught him driving a noisy car with a redesigned muffler on Tuesday night near Nungambakkam.

The police stopped the loud car and found Jai in the car. They asked him about the type of muffler he was using that was banned. As the actor had no answer, he reportedly expressed his regrets for using such a muffler. The police slapped a fine of '1,500 and warned him they would confiscate the vehicle if he continues to drive it around noisily.

The police did not want to let the actor go collecting a meagre Rs 1,500 fine from him. They decided to use his celebrity status to create awareness on the traffic violations by making a video featuring him. In the video that went viral on Wednesday, Jai is seen standing behind his car along with a traffic inspector and asking youngsters not to use such type of mufflers while pointing to his car muffler. “Due to noisy cars with such loud mufflers, elderly persons, patients and children suffer a lot. If anyone uses this, the police would seize the car,” Jai says in the video clip.

This is not the first time the young actor has entangled himself in road violation cases. Jai was caught by the traffic police in Mylapore for driving a car at high speed two years ago. In another incident, Jai had a close shave after ramming his luxury car on the centre median on a flyover in Adyar last October. It was alleged that the actor was under the influence of alcohol during that incident.
