Six die in 3 different road accidents near Kanchi

The incident happened at around 4.30 pm when Sankar (35) of Tiruvallur was driving a container lorry towards Chennai.

Chennai: As many as six persons including two from Andhra Pradesh died in three different road accidents on the same day near Kancheepuram, on Wednesday.

In one of the incidents, mini-lorry driver A. Sagaya Ilango (38) of Theni, M. Manogaran (42) of Thiruvannamalai and P. Vetrivel (23) of Harur in Dharmapuri district were charred to death after their lorry rammed a container lorry near Mevalur Kuppam in Sriperumbudur on the Bengaluru - Chennai highway. The mini lorry was carrying broiler chickens to Thiruverkadu.

The incident happened at around 4.30 pm when Sankar (35) of Tiruvallur was driving a container lorry towards Chennai. Sagaya Ilango tried to take the highway from a service road at high speed. “He lost control of the vehicle and rammed the container lorry, upsetting it. Due to the impact, mini-lorry’s fuel tank got punctured resulting in a fire and the trio were trapped inside the lorry,” the police said.

Although passersby and residents doused the fire before firemen could reach the spot, Sagaya Ilango and Manogaran had died on the spot. Vetrivel and Sankar were rushed to Sriperumbudur hospital, where Vetrivel succumbed. Sankar is receiving treatment. Sriperumbudur police registered a case and are investigating.

In another incident, Ramakrishna (48) and Renukambal (67) of Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh died after a lorry rammed their tractor on Bengaluru - Chennai highway. Both, who were in the mango business, were on the way to Chennai to sell mangoes. “Ramakrishna was driving the tractor while the woman was sleeping on the load. At around 5.30 am, a lorry hit

the tractor upsetting it near Thandalam. Ramakrishna and Renukambal died on the spot,” the police said. Kancheepuram Taluk police registered a case.

Palani (30) of KK Nagar in Chennai died after his car rammed a lorry on Chennai - Tiruchy highway at around midnight near Madhuranthagam. His friend Sakthivel (30) sustained injuries and is admitted in Chengalpattu government hospital. Madhuranthagam police registered a case and are investigating.
