For Metro users, last-mile connectivity still a hassle

One such glaring example is the Trinity Circle station, which daily witnesses heavy footfalls, but has very poor bus connectivity.

Bengaluru: Even though BMRCL launched full-fledged service on both Purple and Green lines, commuters are upset with lack of last mile connectivity at most stations and want BMRCL to work in tandem with BMTC.

One such glaring example is the Trinity Circle station, which daily witnesses heavy footfalls, but has very poor bus connectivity.

According to the thousands of commuters who use this station to reach areas such as Koramangala, Dairy Circle, Silk Board Junction, Bannerghatta Road, there is no bus stop nearby and they have to walk long distances.

“Only G2 route buses are connecting this station in their return direction from Sarjapur road. But as there is no bus stop, passengers forced to walk at least 1.5 kilometres from two signals,” said Shyamala Murthy, a working professional from Koramangala.

“No other metro station is accessible for commuters from busy Koramangala and surrounding areas. Still, it is sad that neither BMTC nor BMRCL are working on providing bus connectivity to this station,” she added.

Many feel that BMRCL and BMTC are yet to work out a strategy to use the space available near the metro stations to provide last mile connectivity.

“Same thing is repeated at Mantri Square-Sampige road station and Kuvempu road metro stations. People need to cross roads near Mantri Square station to catch buses. But cabs and autos are available within ten metres. This is how BMTC is forced to lose its revenue,” said Dinesh Bhat, a resident of Malleswaram.

“Mantri Square station connects the whole Malleswaram, Mattikere, Kumarakrupa and other surrounding areas with the rest of the city. Instead of developing a full-fledged bus station near the metro station, commercial activities are allowed, which is anti-people,” he said.
