Sewerage Board replaces manhole in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Following the death of a person on Saturday night at an uncovered manhole, the Sewerage Board on Monday sanctioned Rs 6 crore to replace manhole covers both sewer and water supply lines and fixing of safety grills and caution boards.
Board managing director M. Dana Kishore said that Rs 3 crore would be used to fix safety grills, Rs 1.50 crore towards procuring new manhole covers and Rs 1.50 crore for sign boards.
Staff has been instructed to complete the fixing of safety grills at all deep manholes. It was observed that in certain cases, manhole covers were being opened by locals to let off rain water. This was leading to to mishaps. Citizens have been requested to not to resort to such activity, Mr Kishore said.
The board had launched a mobile app on Monday using which people could lodge complaints about damaged or missing manhole covers. Details of the damaged or missing manhole covers could also be sent on WhatsApp to the phone number 99499-3003.
