M K Stalin consoles Swathi's parents
CHENNAI: The Leader of the Opposition, M.K. Stalin, on Monday visited the parents of IT employee Swathi who was brutally murdered in Nungambakkam on Friday and consoled the victim's family. Later, speaking to mediapersons, Stalin said the case is a challenge to police and demanded speedy action to nab the culprits.
He said “incidents of murder are on the rise in Tamil Nadu and Chennai is becoming a city of murders. There is no protection to women going outside, he said, adding that even women staying at home are not safe”. Stalin also disputed the statement of the Commissioner of Police, Chennai that hired gangs are not involved in the murders in the city. He said the recent murders in the city have led to fear among the public.
Listing the murders that occurred in the State in one month, he alleged that the number of murders and robberies had increased. The 13-point scheme to protect women announced after the Nirbaya incident had not been implemented, he added.
