AIADMK govt failed to maintain order: CPM

The CPI(M) on Monday alleged that AIADMK government has failed to maintain law and order in the state.

Chennai: Citing recent brutal murder of techie Swathi in Nugambakkam railway station and series of murders in the city, the CPI(M) on Monday alleged that AIADMK government has failed to maintain law and order in the state. A resolution adopted at the party’s state committee meeting in the presence of general secretary Sitaram Yechury and state secretary G. Ramakrishnan said that Chenai city has become a city of murders and pointed to the series of murders of four advocates in a row.

“Murder of a head constable who tried to stop chain snatchers shows how the hired gangs and anti social elements are roaming freely,” the resolution said. However, the state government and police are very keen to clamp down on any movements by the opposition parties or public organisations, it added. The resolution urged the state government to take concrete steps against hired gangs and to increase night patrolling and to put up CCTV cameras in public places. “In the cases involving hired gangs, the persons involved in the crime should be arrested immediately and firms steps should be taken to ensure conviction in such cases,” it demanded.
