11 Special Teams Formed to Track Imposters Who Stole 17 Gold Biscuits in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: In a swift action, north zone police formed 11 special teams to identify and track the imposters, who, posing as Income-Tax officials, made away with 1700 grams of gold (17 gold biscuits weighing 100 grams each) from a goldsmith’s workshop in Secunderabad’s Pot Market, Takkarwadi basti, on Saturday.

The scene of offence is located on the fourth floor of Navkar complex that houses more than 16 gold and silver workshops and jewellery shops. Overall, Navkar complex and the surroundings have over 800 shops spread over seven lanes of Pot market.

Meanwhile, reliable sources said that three of the imposters have been reportedly taken into custody by the special teams in the city outskirts while they were trying to flee. Police are making efforts to arrest the other accused after the three spilled the beans about their accomplices.

Police have also recovered the gold and will be disclosing their modus operandi and their involvement in other similar cases, sources said.

Earlier, police collected pictures of the burglars from the 11 CCTV cameras installed on different floors and telescope cameras in the complex. The screen shots were also circulated to Maharashtra police.

The owner Revanna Babu, a native of Maharashtra, had rented two portions 18 months back and had three permanent workers from Maharashtra, the neighbouring shop owners told Deccan Chronicle.

With a lead that the imposters were aged between 25 and 28 years and spoke in Marathi, police strongly suspected that they are either associated with the present workers or had earlier worked in the same workshop.
