Telangana government sanctions Rs 505 crore for SRDP works

According to a GHMC official, a 470-metre underpass will be constructed for commuters from Mehdipatnam to Gachibowli.

Hyderabad: In a major development, the municipal administration and urban development department has accorded administrative sanction of Rs 505 crore to build grade separators, underpasses and elevated corridors under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP).

Of this, Rs 175 crore is meant to construct flyovers at Rethibowli junction with extension of down ramp up to Langer Houz main road and underpass at Nanalnagar junction.

Another Rs 330 crore has been cleared to construct a six-lane two-way flyover towards Outer Ring Road towards Kondapur and laying a 120-foot-wide road from Shilpa Layout to Gachibowli via gas company.

According to a GHMC official, a 470-metre underpass will be constructed for commuters from Mehdipatnam to Gachibowli.

The unidimensional underpass will have a three-lane road which would save time for commuters at Nanalnagar T-junction, wher traffic jams are the order of the day during peak hours.

The corporation will construct a 700-metre flyover on the Gachibowli-Golconda route to provide signal-free travel to commuters.

Besides, the civic body has decided to construct a 900-metre flyover on the Attapur Junction-Mehdipatnam stretch to ease traffic congestion at Rethibowli junction. This would be a second-level flyover above the PVNR expressway. The government has accorded Rs 170 crore to take up civil works and Rs 5 crore for land acquisition.

This would help commuters from Rethibowli avoid two signals on their way to Mehdipatnam. He said that the project also requires a small chunk of defence land. As the defence ministry has not accorded permission, service roads to the left of the flyover which were proposed alongside Old Mumbai highway will not be constructed.

Near Kondapur, the government has given the green signal for the six-lane two-way flyover towards the Outer Ring Road. This will be at the second level over the Gachibowli junction.

Besides, a 120-foot-wide road from Shilpa Layout to Gachibowli will be laid via gas company. Both these projects have received Rs 330 crore of which Rs 275 crore is meant for civil works and Rs 55 crore for land acquisition.

The proposed road will pass through Gachibowli junction where a 1.45-km-long four-lane two-way flyover is being constructed along the old Mumbai highway. This is already a busy road, and the traffic is expected to increase due to largescale constructions and development of Knowledge City.

The proposed diversion of traffic to the new road is expected to rise from 1,380 passenger car unit (PCU) per hour at peak time now to 3,407 PCU per hour in 2028. The peak-hour traffic flow at the Gachibowli junction is 15,020 PCU now.
