State BJP clueless on next president

RSS unhappy with Kummanam Rajasekharan as governor.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Central BJP leadership making the state president Kummanam Rajasekharan the Governor of Mizoram on the eve of Chengannur by-poll has not gone down well with the RSS. P. Gopalan Kutty Master, RSS State secretary and Prantha Karyavahak, said it was an inappropriate decision. Mr Rajasekharan reached New Delhi on Sunday evening and is expected to hold talks with national president Amit Shah.

He had to leave in the middle of garnering votes for BJP candidate P. S. Sreedharan Pillai, meeting influential people in the constituency. Though he has not yet been sworn in, the protocol doesn’t allow him to electioneer or to make public statements. For the last two days, RSS leaders were in Pranthiya Karyakari Baithak in Kochi when the news came in. The master said his appointment was ill-timed.

“RSS released him from his pracharak role when he was appointed as BJP State president in Dec 2015. So now he is answerable to the central BJP leadership. But unfortunately, his appointment was ill-timed,” he told DC. "None had sought our views." Neither has he any clue about who will come at the helm of the party next.

In all likelihood, Mr Shah is expected to announce his replacement on Monday evening. Incumbent Lt. Gen. (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma's tenure ends on Monday, and the Kerala leader will have to take over on the same day. BJP leaders camping in Chengannur are also upset, eagerly waiting for the next big announcement from Delhi.
