Haritha Haram: Schools to convert into green areas
Hyderabad: Telangana forest department and the school education department have joined hands to make students as brand ambassadors for the fourth phase of Haritha Haram this year. All schools in the state will be converted into green cover areas, according to the plan.
Students from Classes VI to X have to participate in Haritha Haram, the sapling plantation drive, and one day in a week should be allocated to take care of the saplings.
The green brigade will be established with the guidance of teachers. Nature clubs will be set up in schools.
School plantations will focus on ayurvedic plants and students will be graded on the basis of the work they put in.
The work also involves watering saplings, protecting them among others.
An adopt-a-tree scheme has been proposed so that students feel a responsibility to each sapling.
