Engineer student drowns in Ramanagara lake
Bengaluru: A weekend getaway by 10 friends from the city led to the drowning of a 24-year-old engineering student near Campfire Circle, located on the banks of Averahalli Lake in Ramanagara Rural police station limits on Saturday evening.
The deceased, Chetan Kumar, a resident of Whitefield, had gone on an outing with his friends on Saturday noon. According to the police, Chetan had recently completed his engineering course.
Preliminary investigation revealed that on Saturday noon a group of around ten students had checked into a resort at Campfire Circle.
Police said the incident took place around 5 pm, when the students decided to venture into a pond located outside the resort. Chetan, who did not know swimming, got caught in the silt and tried to wriggle out, but drowned. His friends tried to save him, but failed.
They informed the resort management, who alerted the police. They came along with a rescue team and fished out the body.
“We have booked a case of death due to negligence on the part of the resort management under Section 304 A of Indian Penal Code,” said a police official.
Ramanagara rural police have registered a case and the body was handed over to the family.
