Telangana languid on hiring of staff in various government departments

As per official data, just over 12,000 posts have been filled since the formation of the state three years ago.

Hyderabad: Recruitment of staff in various government departments has been moving at a tardy pace in Telangana state.

As per official data, just over 12,000 posts have been filled since the formation of the state three years ago.

In 2014, the government had announced that it would fill 1.08 lakh posts in its term. However, the languid pace suggests that the target may not be met.

The data available with the finance department’s directorate of treasuries and accounts revealed that since formation of Telangana, as many as 12,825 posts will be filled.

“The total number of permanent and contract employees recruited from July 2014 were 12,825” the data reveals.

It showed that the total number of employees getting salaries through treasuries department under Account 010 was 2,39,617.

The total number of permanent employees working in all departments was 2,96,687, while the total number of contract employees working in all departments with a salary of Rs 15,000 per month was 19,162.

Interestingly, the department has no details over how many contract employees were regularised and made permanent employees, though the government has been claiming that thousands have been regularised.

Soon after the TRS government took over in June 2014, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao told the state Assembly that the government had identified nearly 1.08 lakh vacancies and all these posts will be filled at the earliest.

After Opposition parties, TJAC and student organisations protested over the delay and staged agitations, the government said that these vacancies would be filled in its five-year term.
