Bengaluru: Fire in shopping complex, 4 rescued from terrace
Bengaluru: A fire broke out in a shopping complex in Kasavanahalli on Sarjapura Road on Saturday, created panic among people in the area. Those residing in nearby buildings rushed out of their houses and shops fearing that it may spread.
The fire was reportedly caused by electrical short circuit and no casualties were reported. Goods worth lakhs got gutted. As many as five fire tenders were pressed into service and it took two-and-half-hours for the officials to douse the fire.
The fire broke out around 11 am on the first floor of the five-storied building. The fire officials who reached the spot rescued four people from the terrace. “The complex has a PG on the top floors. When we reached the spot, four people, including PG inmates and workers, had gone to the terrace to avoid being caught in fire. We rescued them from the adjacent building,” a senior official, who was part of the operation, told Deccan Chronicle.
The official further said that the complex had no fire safety measures and a lot of garbage was dumped at the staircase. Sarjapur police have filed a case of negligence against the building owner and further investigations are on.
