Hyderabad: Women police register success despite odds

Police stations have few amenities, are under staffed.

Hyderabad: The three women’s police stations in the city are facing a staff crunch and suffering from lack of infrastructure.

The North Zone police station in Begumpet receives around 10 petitions daily and at least three people accompany petitioner. But there are no basic amenities with only one toilet for both staff and petitioners. The Central Zone women’s PS is better off. But there’s not enough waiting space for petitioners at the counselor’s office.

The South Zone women’s PS meanwhile located in an old building is in a horrible condition with no space for visitors to wait nor is there parking available on the congested street opposite the High Court’s gate no. five. Everyone, from home guards to the inspector in the PS has to eat at their desks as there is no dining room. Its roof leaks during the rainy season.

All the three police stations are facing a staff crunch. About 40 to 50 per cent vacancies have to be filled for better output apart from sanctioning more posts.
In-charge police commissioner Mr Anjani Kumar told DC that three new buildings had been sanctioned for the three women’s police stations.

“Central Zone WPS will get a good office under the Renovation of Police Stations’ fund. The North and South Zone WPS will get new buildings with all amenities soon,” he said.
