Labourer falls to death at Mamata swearing-in venue
Kolkata: A middle-aged labourer fell to death on Saturday morning at the venue of the grand swearing in ceremony where chief minister Mamata Banerjee took oath on Red Road in presence of high-profile dignitaries including several top political leaders on Friday.
Goutam Naskar, the victim in his mid forties, was one of the labourers of Modern Decorator engaged along with others in dismantling the giant temporary structure of the dais facing Esplanade.
Losing balance Goutam, a resident of Baruipur in South 24 Parganas, somehow fell down and suffered deep head injuries, according to preliminary investigations.
While working he did not have any protection, sources claimed.
He was declared brought dead at SSKM Hospital, said special additional commissioner of police (headquarters) Supratim Sarkar.
The body was sent for post mortem.
The road which has been closed for traffic from 10 pm on May 23 for the event will remain shut for vehicular movements till 6 am on May 29 or till the dismantling of the temporary structure.
