BJP to stake claim on one Rajya Sabha seat
Hyderabad: BJP national president Amit Shah on Friday disclosed that he was in touch with AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu with regards to sparing one Rajya Sabha seat for the BJP from AP. When pointed out by a scribe that TD leader Nara Lokesh had said that the BJP has not yet made any request on renewal of RS membership of Union minister Nirmala Sitaraman, the BJP president said he himself was in touch with Mr Naidu over this.
“We will certainly seek renewal, and I am in touch with Chandrababu Naidu,” Amit Shah said.
The last date of filing of nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha polls is May 31. The TD has so far not declared its nominees and it is likely that Mr Naidu will announce the names on Sunday, by which time clarity will emerge on Ms Sitaraman’s re-nomination from AP. Replying to another question, Amit Shah said that the BJP’s AP unit will get a new president within a week. At present, Visakhapatnam MP K. Haribabu is in charge.
