Kochi: Protest over decision to shift police women cell
KOCHI: The decision to shift the City Police Women Cell from Thripunithura to Ernakulam town faces much criticism from the residents of Thripunithura as many have raised complaints regarding this. They say that shifting of the cell from a calm atmosphere to the centre of the city will affect its functioning.
The women cell functioning from its own building is planning to be shifted to Revenue Tower in Ernakulam. According to police officials, the decision was already taken and the process is going on.
Thrippunithura Rajanagari Union of Residents’ Association (TRURA) president V.P. Prasad and convener V.C. Jayendran said that the cell is being functioned as a centre. “The centre provides a calm atmosphere for the complainants to have conversation with the officials. Many including the women residents in the area raised issues in this regard. Besides, what is the need to shift the cell that has own building in Thripunthura,” their statement said. “We are planning to give the complaint to Chief Minister, state police chief, IG Kochi Range and City Police Commissioner.”
Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kochi City, J Himendranath said that the decision has been made in order to make the women cell more vibrant and workful under the roof of City Police Office in Revenue Tower.
“The women cell should come under the CPO so that the petitioners can easily approach all the officials, including top officials as they are also available in the building, instead of going to a faraway place like Thripunithura. Besid-es, the supervision will be better when it is here,” he said.
