Hyderabad: Following a protest by villagers and the family members of a 14-year-old girl whose body was fished out from an old agricultural well, Racha-konda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat assured them that the police would arrest the culprits within 24 hours.
On Friday, when Shravani did not return home after 3 pm, her family began searching for her and finally lodged a complaint with the police.
Villagers found her school bag at about 11 pm and informed the police who they allege did not react. Police and villagers finally found her body buried in an old well on Saturday. Enraged at this, they did not allow the police to take the body for postmortem.
A few liquor bottles were found near the well. Police suspects that the girl was murdered after she was raped.
