Hyderabad: People living in and around the Taj Falaknuma Palace are irked by the loud music emanating from the hotel from a DJ system.
In a letter addressed to Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar, the residents complained that the ailing and children are unable to sleep due to the sound, and students were finding it difficult to study.
The residents of Madina Colony, Bangladesh, Bibi ka Chashma, Jahanuma, Risala Abdullah, Jangamet, the Falaknuma bus depot area and the locality behind Rythu Bazaar in their letter to Mr Kumar asked him to take action.
They said that programmes are organised for the guests every few weeks, which continue till midnight, beyond the 10 pm deadline set up by the apex court. The said that during Ramzan, which starts next month, special prayers are held till late night in the mosques and the loud music would surely disturb the persons who are praying in the mosques and houses around the hotel.
Moulana Mohammed Farooq Pasha Quadri a resident of Madina Colony, said the elderly and children were not sleeping well at night due to the noise.
Engine Bowli resident Mohammed Arshad Mohiuddin said vessels in houses near the hotel vibrate due to the music.
He said students preparing for competitive examinations were disturbed by the noise.
He said that whenever locals alerted the police over social media, two or three cops would reach the hotel. On seeing them, the organisers stop the programme but restart it as soon as the police leaves.
He asked the police to impose a ban on the noisy musical programmes in the hotel.
Asked about the letter, ACP Falaknuma, Mohammed Abdul Rasheed, said the police was reviewing the complaint and that he had asked the Falaknuma station house officer to take up the matter.
“We are contemplating serving a notice to the hotel management,” he said. Asked whether the hotel had applied for police permission, he said the management usually does so before the programme.
The hotel had organised a musical programme with singer Honey Singh on Friday. It organises musical programmes and invites film and ghazal singers and musicians.
A security officer at the Taj Falaknuma Palace stated that a musical programme was held at the hotel after a gap of 4-5 months in connection with an award ceremony. He said that the management applies for police permit for such programmes.
“We refute the allegation of using of loud musical instruments as our other guests will raise an objection,” he said.
