Hyderabad: Civic body plans ‘keyhole surgeries’ on five flyovers

The official said that traffic on Lalapet flyover will be diverted from next week for the major repairs.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is to perform “keyhole surgery” on the aged Lalapet flyover, that will cost 15.50 crore. The civic body has already repaired the damaged portions underneath the flyover and will take up repairs on the flyover next week. Only one-way traffic will be allowed on the flyover and timings are yet to be finalised.

Bridges including the Telugu Talli, Dabeerpura, Khairatabad, Muslim Jung, Purana Pul, Bashe-erbagh, Masab Tank, Hafizpet (Old), and Narayanguda are due for repairs after the flyover.

Explaining about the works, a corporation official said the flyover, which was constructed 20 years ago, will have bearing failure, structural concrete failure, and failure of expansion joints which were fixed at every 10 metres on old flyovers. He said that the bearings have to be replaced every 10 to 15 years and structural concrete has to be checked to avoid collapse.
