Bravery award for Tiruchy BHEL worker

A BHEL release on Saturday, that Mr Padmanaban, received the award for his act of bravery and presence of mind in extinguishing a fire.

Tiruchy: M Padmanaban, working as a Grade II Artisan in the High-Pressure Boiler Plant of BHEL Tiruchirappalli has been conferred with the prestigious, Jeewan Raksha Padak for 2018, consisting of a medal, a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000 and a citation, by Government of India in recognition of his act of saving life at his workplace at grave risk to his own.

A BHEL release on Saturday, that Mr Padmanaban, received the award for his act of bravery and presence of mind in extinguishing a fire which broke out at his workplace due to leak of highly inflammable acetylene gas from a cylinder used for welding. He quickly identified and deployed the correct fire extinguisher to put out the fire, averting a major disaster as the incident happened close to the LPG line and in proximity to the coal-yard and other inflammable goods, it added. At a function held at New Delhi on Friday, Mr. Padmanaban received the award from Dr. AR Sihag, secretary, department of Heavy Industry, Government of India, in the presence of Atul Sobti, chairman and managing director, BHEL and D Bandyopadhyay, director, Human Resources, BHEL, the release added.
