Politics spills over to Wakf bodies

Committee members Munnawari Begum, and Rayeez Khan Pathan had said that the Board comes under the purview of the Central Wakf Council.

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Wakf Board and the Central Wakf Council are at loggerheads over the protection of Wakf properties in the state. The dispute has arisen due to the political affiliations of the members.

While the Telangana State Wakf Board is dominated by the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti affiliated persons, the Central Wakf Council has members affiliated directly or indirectly to the Bhartiya Janata Party.

The unharmonious relation came to the fore during the visit of a Central Wakf Council team to the state to inspect work of the TS Wakf Board and its administration.

However, CWC members pointed out that the state Wakf Board failed to coordinate with them and while carrying out their inspection.

Committee members Munnawari Begum, and Rayeez Khan Pathan had said that the Board comes under the purview of the Central Wakf Council. “Despite this fact, the state Wakf Board did not cooperate with us. In fact, we had issued a 15-day notice before taking up the inspection,” he said.

They further alleged that the TS Wakf Board officials and chairman had failed to coordinate with them during the ins-pection of records, reports and revenue sources.

However, TS Wakf Board chairman, Mohd. Saleem says that the board is performing far better compared to previous years. “It is wrong on the part of the Central Wakf Council members to blame us. The Central Wakf Council had come and demanded Rs 80 lakh Wakf fund which we assured to pay soon.

All relevant records sought by them were shown and copies of documents provided to them,” he said.
