Two die at Jagan rally as parapet collapses

Later, Jagan concluded his speech and visited the local hospital to inquire about the medical treatment being given to them.

Rajahmundry: Two women were killed and 14 others sustained injuries when a portion of a parapet on a municipal building complex crashed during an election rally being addressed by YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy at Mandapeta in East Godavari on Wednesday.

Four persons who suffered critical injuries were shifted to government hospitals in Rajahmundry and Kakinada while the remaining who sustained minor injuries were admitted at local government and private hospitals.

District medical and health officer Dr Ramesh Kishore said, “In the parapet wall collapse, two aged women were killed and 14 others sustained injuries. Those who suffered minor injuries were given treatment at local hospitals.”

Peddapuram DSP J. Santosh said, “As several people turned up to attend the public meeting, we asked all those who climbed on the rooftops and tree tops to come down for their own safety. But in the parapet wall collapse two women were killed and those who were injured were shifted to both private and government hospitals for medical treatment. We will book a case shortly.”

Meanwhile, tension mounted at the venue as Jagan continued his address after the deceased woman and the injured persons were shifted to the government and private hospitals locally and also in Rajahmundry and Kakinada. Mild tension prevailed for some time as supporters from Jana Sena raised objections.

Later, Jagan concluded his speech and visited the local hospital to inquire about the medical treatment being given to them. He offered condolences for the death of the two women.
