T Jeevan Reddy says win slap on TRS leaders’ faces

Says only 17 per cent votes were polled for TRS candidate.

Karimnagar: “My win is a big slap on the faces of TRS leaders,” said Congress party senior leader and former minister T. Jeevan Reddy on Wednesday after he emerged victorious in the MLC elections that were held on March 22, contesting from Karimnagar-Medak-Adilabad-Nizamabad MLC constituency.

Mr Jeevan won the elections with a huge margin of around 39,430 votes against his counterpart, former Group-I officer and TRS supported Mamindla Chandrashekar Goud.

The counting process which began at 9 am on Tuesday at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar indoor stadium in Karimnagar ended in the early hours at 4 am on Wednesday.

Out of 1,95,581 votes in the constituency, 1,15,359 were polled in the elections. The total number of votes that are valid are 1,05,427 and about 9,932 votes that were polled were counted as not valid due to various reasons. Mr Jeevan of the Congress secured 56,698 votes and TRS supported Mr Mamindla got 17,268 votes. In a press meet held at the Congress party office Mr Jeevan said that only 17 per cent of votes were polled for the TRS supported candidate Mr Mamindla in the MLC elections that were held on March 22, that is, about 83 per cent of intellectuals, employees and teachers in the state were against the TRS and its anti-people’s policies.

He assured graduates, employees and unemployed youth who played a key role in his victory that he would try to resolve all their issues becoming their voice in the council.

Mr Jeevan Reddy urged people to elect Congress nominated LS candidate in the upcoming LS elections in the same spirit and enthusiasm to teach the TRS party and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao a fitting lesson as he was ruling like a monarch, suppressing the voice of the opposition and neglecting people’s issues.

The TRS also received a major jolt when it lost the teachers MLC seat in Karimnagar-Adilabad-Medal-Nizamabad constituency. The PRTU supported Kura Ragotham Reddy who emerged victorious in the Karimnagar Teachers MLC constituency defeating TRS supported Pathuri Sudhakar Reddy.

Former minister and Manthani MLA D. Sridhar Babu, district Congress party president Katakam Mruthyunjayam and Congress nominated Karimnagar LS candidate and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar were present in the press meet along with others.
