Militants kill Shopian youth for allegedly helping security forces

SRINAGAR: Suspected militants on Wednesday shot dead a youth in a remote village of Jammu and Kashmir’s southern Shopian district. Later a video carrying “confessional” statement of the youth was circulated through social media platforms.

In the video apparently shot before he was killed, the youth is saying that he provided information about the whereabouts of four militants to the security forces who were subsequently confronted by them.

The police identified the slain youth as Tanveer Ahmed Dar, a resident of Bemnipora of Shopian. It said that he was waylaid by the militants and later killed in neighbouring village of Kachdoora.

A report from Shopian said that 24-year-old Dar was shot from point blank range near a mosque at Kachdoora, resulting into his instant death. Later the police after completion of medico-legal form-alities handed the body over to his family. “The police has registered a ca-se and officers visited the spot to establish circumstances of this terror crime,” a statement issu-ed by the police said.
