Mancherial: Police are combing the forest areas with the help of drone cameras on the borders along the river Pranahitha and keeping a close watch on Maoist movement in the wake of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Following a call by the Maoists to boycott the Lok Sabha elections, police have intensified combing.

The police have set up CCTV cameras at 16 ferry points along the river Pranahitha and with the help of drone cameras are identifying the people crossing the river and entering Telangana from Maharashtra and Chattisgarh.

They have also formed 20 counter action teams to keep watch. These teams have been provided with bikes and short weapons.

Special police party and greyhound teams led by the Ramagundam police commissioner V. Satyanarayana and Mancherial DCP Rakshitha K. Murthy in the Chennur subdivision are conducting checks on the river Pranahitha.

Mr Satyanarayana said they have intensified combing in the forest areas that are considered Maoists effected and have taken into custody 15 suspicious persons.

The police are also conducting gram sabhas in interior villages in Neelvai and are trying to create confidence among the villagers. Villagers are being asked to cast their vote without fear in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
