Hyderabad: A 45-year-old auto driver, Shaik Saleem supplies clean, chilled  drinking water to all as a manifestation of his charitable bent of mind. The money comes from his limited earnings from running an autorickshaw.

He starts his run to quench the thirst of Hyderabadis from his home in Falaknuma at 9am. All he wants in return is the blessings of Allah.

Mr Saleem lives with his wife and four children including one daughter, and goes around the city supplying chilled purified water to traffic policemen, bystanders, passengers, and other pedestrians.

Speaking to this newspaper, he says, “It’s been two years since I started supplying water to the citizens of Hyderabad. the Quran says to give food and water to all the people. Whatever you distribute will come back to you in equal measure.”

Mr Saleem added that he starts work at 9 am and drives his auto till 6 pm.  “Every day, I have to purchase two bottles each of 20 litres for Rs 30. On some days even three bottles of water are not enough.”

Speaking about his career and the reason behind the philanthropy, he says, “I know only driving. I have been driving it since 1993. My sole aim for doing this work is blessings from God.”
