Hyderabad: 3 dead as lorry rams devotees

The devotees were going to Srisailam on foot to participate in Ugadi celebrations.

Kurnool: Three persons were killed and five suffered injuries when a lorry hit them while they were walking on the road at Eaduladevara Banda village in Devanakonda mandal on Wednesday.

The same lorry hit some other persons where three were also injured at Kapatrala Village which is two kilometres away from the first accident.

The deceased have been identifed as Uligaiah, 30; Vidhulinga, 23 and Sheku, 16; natives of Yarragudi village in Bellary district of neighbouring Karnataka state.

According to sources, a 42-member group of devotees were going to Srisailam on foot to participate in Ugadi celebrations. It is a tradition being followed by Kannadigas every year. When they reached Eeduladevara Banda, a lorry from the opposite direction hit eight people. In the mishap, three devotees died on the spot and five others suffered injuries.

The lorry driver was caught at Kappatralla where he allegedly hit some other devotees. Devanakonda police rushed to the spot and shifted the dead bodies to Kurnool General Hospital.
