Telangana government offices to get rainwater harvesting pits

Water is currently supplied to the city from projects on the Krishna and Godavari rivers.

Hyderabad: Rainwater harvesting pits will be set up at all the government offices in the city, beginning with Pragati Bhavan.

Minister K.T. Rama Rao said that he will request the chief secretary to issue orders in this regard. During a review meeting held on Tuesday to address the drinking water needs of the city for the summer, Mr Rao said that the rainwater harvesting theme park would be ready by the first week of June.

As many rainwater harvesting pits as possible will be set up in the city during this summer. The minister urged the public to participate in the Jalam Jeevam programme for the conservation of rainwater.

“Problems of water scarcity have been reduced as compared to previous years. Necessary measures are being taken to ensure that there is no scarcity of drinking water in the capital city during summer.”

Water is currently supplied to the city from projects on the Krishna and Godavari rivers. The water board is capable of supplying 100 Million Gallons per day (MGD). The city can be supplied 600 MGD per day if all the available resources are utilised.

Mr Rao directed officials to create a masterplan for inter-grid connectivity for the supply of water. He also ordered them to complete road restoration work swiftly, after having received several complaints from people regarding road excavations.
