Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday announced that six airstrips would be developed in Telangana state to improve air connectivity.
He said that proposals in that regard would be submitted to the Centre soon.
Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, Mr Rao said, “On the east, there is the Gannavaram Airport of AP, and on the west, there is the Bidar Airport of Karnataka. We can use the services of these airports. We have identified six locations in Telangana where airstrips need to be developed for better air connectivity.”
The CM said that 757 acres of land was available in Mamnoor, Warangal, for the development of an airstrip.
He added that 265 acres in Basantnagar of Peddapally district, 850 acres in Jakranpally of Nizamabad district, and 400 acres in Adilabad had also been identified for that purpose.
“Efforts are underway to develop airstrips in Addakula of Mahbubnagar district and Kothagudem,” the CM said.
Mr Rao also said that the government had initiated steps to develop a railway terminal in Cherlapally to ease the congestion at Secunderabad Railway Station.
He said 10 to 12 platforms would be developed at Cherlapally and all major trains would stop there, so people residing on the outskirts of the city would no longer have to board and alight trains from Secunderabad.
