CPM rallies to clear air on Keezhattoor

Mr Jayarajan said the parishad stood for pro-people politics (Janapaksha rashtreeyam)'.

Kannur: The CPM will conduct two rallies in Kannur district in the wake of the Keezhattoor agitation in order to explain to the people about the ‘facts’ that led to the agitation and the stance of the party. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Kannur district secretary P. Jayarajan said the rallies would be held between April 4 and April 9. Jayarajan himself will inaugurate the Northern zone rally in Kannur city while the Southern zone rally led by James Mathew, MLA, would be kicked off by P.K. Sreemathy. The BJP which joined the agitation against the Keezhattoor bypass was demanding a bypass for Kannur through a paddy field at Valiyannur, said Jayarajan.

“The BJP is raising the demand alleging that 85 houses would have been demolished for the bypass at Varam-Kadankode area”, he said, adding that BJP leader P.K. Krishnadas demanded an alternative alignment through a paddy field for which he had already submitted a memorandum to union minister for surface transport Nitin Gadkari, thus exposing the true colours of the BJP. “It is up to the National Highway Authority to decide the alignment of a bypass”, he said. On the stand of the Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad, Mr Jayarajan said the parishad stood for ‘pro-people politics (Janapaksha rashtreeyam)’.
