Chennai: Tough plus-2 maths paper leaves students in tears

Chennai: Plus-2 students' math question paper was quite tough leaving many students from the state board in tears on Monday.

The number of centums this year would certainly be fewer in mathematics, due to unfamiliar questions. Students who studied the entire book alone can score good marks in the exam, teachers said.

“The question paper had many twisted questions and understanding them took up a lot of time. The paper also had many unfamiliar questions,” said a student from Madipakkam.

The math paper, which has a total of 200 marks, has 40 one-mark, 15 six marks and 15 ten marks questions. In the six marks and 10 marks sections, students can write any 10 questions.

Apart from the choices, students also have to attend compulsory questions with an internal choice in both the six and ten marks sections.

“The paper had unfamiliar questions in these compulsory sections. The average students will struggle to answer them all. The question paper was set in a manner that full marks can only be achieved by students who are thorough with the two volumes of the book,” a teacher from Chidambaram said.

“Usually, the six-mark section will be tough. However, this year, the 10-marks section also had some tough questions. A compulsory question was asked from calculus which students generally avoid while preparing for the exam,” he added.

Students found the one-mark questions easy as they were asked from the textbook based questions. The marks scored in the subject can make or break one's career as it is one of the important criteria to get admission into the professional courses.
