All roads lead to SM Krishna, the patron of Maddur

Krishna praised Modi's initiatives and maintained that the country required the services of a strong leader like him.

BENGALURU: With former external affairs minister S M Krishna set to hit the campaign trail to drum up support for BJP candidates in Nanjangud and Gundlupet on April 2 and 3, BJP leaders and voters of a constituency in Bengaluru, which he represented in 2004, made a beeline to his residence on Monday.

Interestingly, many Muslims from Maddur, who called on the veteran politician, told him that they had no issues with his new avatar as BJP leader if their security and jobs were not touched by the party.

Among prominent BJP leaders who paid a courtesy visit on Monday were educationist and Rajya Sabha member Mr Prabhakar Kore and former law minister S Suresh Kumar. “He told party leaders that he would campaign for candidates in Nanjangud and Gundlupet by-polls. The party might utilise his services there. Besides that, the party has not planned anything specific for him right now,” sources in the state unit of BJP said.

Sources said during his chat with BJP leaders, Mr Krishna praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives and maintained that the country required the services of a strong leader like him.
