Election campaign picks up momentum in Visakhapatnam

The corporation elections are being held after a gap of 14 years

Visakhapatnam: Election campaign has picked up momentum in Visakhapatnam for the 98 wards of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation. The corporation elections are being held after a gap of 14 years.

The day witnessed hectic campaign and whirlwind visits of wards by MPs, MLAs and state level leaders of various political parties. Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha member MVV Satyanarayana toured most of the wards, while Anakapalle MP Dr K Satyavati visited four wards under Anakapalle zone of the corporation.

Visakhapatnam South MLA, who switched over to YSRC campaigned for the ruling party in the wards located in old town areas. Belonging to fishermen community, he visited the harbour area and fisher folk localities in the town.

Visakhapatnam city president of YSRC Vamsi Krishna Yadav, tipped to be the mayor visited most of the houses in his 21st ward. He is being challenged by independent candidate Mohammed Ghouse. Top leaders of the party accompanied Vamsi Krishna Yadav.

TDP MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishnababu visited Jalaripeta, his strong hold and Lawon’s Bay colony campaigning for the party candidates. Visakhapatnam West MLA PVGR Naidu addressed several election meetings in Gajuwaka and Sriharipuram industrial areas.

Similarly former TD minister Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy and MLC Buddha Naga Jagadiwara Rao addressed meetings in rural pockets of Paravada, Gajuwaka and Pendurthi.

State president of BJP Somu Veerraju opened election office for BJP-Sena combine at Gajuwaka and addressed public meetings. He addressed another election meeting at Maharanipeta in Visakhapatnam old town area.

While Left parties were confined to Anakapalle, MLA Petla Umashankar Ganesh campaigned in Narsipatnam area.
